You have More Money Than Brains

“You have more money than brains” was a favorite quote that my dear old departed uncle used to use.

At 2 am this morning, I decided to give blogging a try. I thought of my Uncle Joe’s quote almost immediately. Why? Because it literally took 5 minutes to sign up and buy a web hosting service. On the other hand, trying to figure out where the login button was on Word Press took about 10 times longer.  I’m looking forward to figuring out things like how to change my header page and upload photos. Hopefully it’s as easy as people say.

I’ve grown to love my uncle’s quote because it’s so anti-consumer. He would never part with money if he could figure out a way to serve his purpose for free. Both with big corporations and with our personal lives, it’s sometimes easier to throw money at a problem vs finding the free or almost free way to get the same result.

My mom once made an ab-roller from an old broomstick handle and some kid’s rollerblades that she pulled out of the trash.  My friends have since nicknamed her the Polish McGuyver as she’s always turning trash into gardening tools or the like.

Do you have any handy people in your life. What was the most memorable thing they made?

  1. I had dinner with a friend last night, she is (I think) a tad over 60 but looks stunning and is younger in spirit, energy and attitude than many 10 years younger. Over a lovely glass of wine we exchanged various idiosyncracies and tales, she shared with me her personal tool for expanding the selection of TV channels …on her rabbit-ear TV …by building aluminium foil flags and attaching them to the rabbit-ears …voila, almost cable!

  2. Welcome to the blogging world!!! It is so true, it is very hard to find where to logon for wordpress.

Look forward to reading your posts!!

  3. Wow, I didn’t realize you were so new! Welcome to the party 🙂

I’m not so handy (although I’m decent enough at fixing things)… But my father-in-law has skills, he made this awesome toddlers sled with curved wood rails and support. It looks so cool! The kicker was that it was made from scrap oak wood that he had laying around the house!

Thanks. I’ve been reading/commenting on blogs for a long time. Been wanting to have one of my own for a while but was scared of the weirdos online. So far I like it. Thanks for visiting.
