Writing Experiment – Cast your Vote

Since many of the participants and all the writers enjoyed our Monkey writing Experiment, it’s time to do the next one.

I propose that we do it the week after Thanksgiving (DEC 1st) so that it gives more people time to learn about the event. We can put it in a few places and roundups to get the word out more. Several people were bummed they missed it and would have liked to participate.

Here are some ideas (not all PF) that were submitted plus a few of my own:

  • Financial Poem or Haiku
  • How our First Boy/Girl friend affected our financial outlook on life
  • Post an article with implied swear words without actually swearing
  • Bake-off. All using the same chocolate cupcake recipe. Goal: to get everyone’s take on the same recipe with they’re tips and critic of it.
  • All participate in an event and write about it. It could a day of  No TV, No Internet, No Cellphone, No Spending, No processed food, do something you’ve never done before,  etc

For Mash-ups, Mix Personal Finance with:

  • A Disney Pixar Film
  • Huckleberry Finn (one of my favorite books)
  • The Victorian Era
  • The Industrial Revolution
  • Over Population
  • Darwin’s Theory of Evolution
  • Muslims, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism (I think the Christian link is well covered already)
  • Dinosaurs
  • Astrology ie – read your horoscope and interpret it in a PF way
  • Photography
  • Hauntings

Christmas Themed w Personal Finance twist

  • Grinch is too easy
  • Santa is too easy
  • A Christmas Carol WAY too easy
  • Heat Miser and Snow Miser
  • 12 days of Christmas
  • Re-do the Night before Christmas poem
  • Frosty
  • The Tailor of Gloucester

Okay, I think that gives us a good start.

Please cast your vote for favorite idea or submit one of your own in the comments. Believe it or not, I think Astrology and Xmas themes are my two favorites  so far.  I think it would yield some interesting content.

  1. I vote for these two: “Financial Poem or Haiku
How our First Boy/Girl friend affected our financial outlook on life”

The mashups refers to roundups? Themed roundups would be an interesting thing to do. I like the Christmas themes too.

  2. @Invest It Wisely, the “mash-up” probably refers to a post connecting two ideas, like the last mash-up between monkeys and money. That’s my guess at least.

I vote for either a Christmas Themed one like 12 Days of Christmas or the one about how our first boy/girl friend affected our financial outlook. Maybe a the boy/girl friend one on December 1st and a winter holiday themed one 2-3 weeks later (maybe the 22nd…)

  3. I vote with Crystal: a Christmas Themed one like 12 Days of Christmas or How our first boy/girl friend affected our financial outlook.

Thank you for scheduling it on Dec 1! It gives me some time!

  4. Haikus are always a winner! I did a PF haiku last year. You can check it out if ya like 🙂

  5. Invest it – Yeah, what Crystal said.

BFS – You’re like the energizer bunny. I like both ideas but don’t know if everyone could do 2 in December.

Aloysa – is Dec 1st too early do start talking Xmas? I like the 12 days idea. I think it would be fun to see what people swap out in the song.

Ninja – I’m sure a PF poem is in our writing collaboration future. We can link to yours once that time comes.

  6. Ummm…I might be like a bunny, but putting that aside, I think bloggers can push out 2 posts in December, lol. 😉

Now, do you personally want to do roundups twice…ummm…probably not. Which idea do you prefer? 🙂

  7. Crystal – I don’t mind doing 2 if others are also up for it, but I know people go away for Xmas and stuff, so the one xmas week might not be as popular. That’s just speculation though.

  8. As you said, I am an Energizer bunny (because I don’t have kids yet, lol), so we should probably only try for one. I’d pick the 12 Days of Christmas if this is the only one we are doing in December. 🙂

  9. My vote is for the poem. I also like the idea of using a Pixar theme.

I’m up for doing two as well. So, the poem at first, and then the 12 days of Christmas during the week of Christmas!

  10. I think we should do a Christmas one at the beginning of December. My 15 things to do in fall post generated a lot of seasonal traffic, and maybe this would do the same? (it was search traffic). I would hate to have such little exposure to a seasonal topic by limiting it to just a few days.

    Just my 2 cents…

  11. For Dec. my first choice is 12 Days of Christmas
    Jan- Haiku and Astrology
Feb- Boyfriend/girlfriend (you know, cause it’s Valentines Day!) and swear words.

  12. Okay, 12 days of Christmas it is. I like Molly’s schedule the best, so let’s go with that. I’ll do another post on it with guidelines and stuff so we can troll the idea to a few folks. I think this will be a very fun idea. I may even have my beer blog friend see if she can do a beer related version too.

Everyday tips…good point on the xmas traffic. You’re always thinking.
