Jan 5th Coffee Talk – Resolutions with S’s

All, it’s time for next Month’s Writing Experiment. I’ve decided to rename this regular series as Coffee Talk because it reminds me of SNL where Mike Meyers would give a topic and have people talk amongst themselves about it.

If you are a new reader to this site, I started this series a couple of months ago and had 2 very fun roundups so far with Monkey Personal Finances and 12 Days of Christmas posts from around the web.  Due to the diversity of the writers that participate, it’s always super fun to see what people come up with.  Initially we were going to do Haiku’s this month but someone else in the web used that idea recently, so I’m bagging it.

Rules:

  1. Write an article Using New Year’s Resolution as your topic. (This is a good seasonal search engine word).
  2. The article must be about either gaining time or gaining income. I figure everybody must want one of these two things. Be specific with your goal and try to make it measurable. I want to earn $1000/month on side hustle, or I want 2 hours more per day to Insert Activity (as long as it’s not exercise..exercise is way overused as a resolution).
  3. Use 5 S words in your topic headings to describe your plan of attack.  (For example, if W was the topic heading letter you might say, Who, What, When, Where, Why)
  4. If interested mark your calendar now so you don’t forget about it.
  5. Try to go outside your writing comfort zone. Stretch yourself.
  6. Help me spread the word.
  7. Post on Jan5th.*
  8. Link back  to this site or email me so that I know you participated.
  9. I will post a master round up list at the end of my Jan 5th article. Others can copy and paste it into their own article if desired.
  10. Read other’s posts, laugh, have fun, and promote your fellow blogger.

*Note, if you don’t have a blog of your own but would like to post your own content, you can also send me your article and I can post it up on my site.

February’s topic will be “What my first boy(girl)friend taught me about money.”

  1. LOL, that is when my actual resolutions post is scheduled already. 🙂 Oh well, I’ll move it back a week.

I don’t understand the “5 S Words in Your Topic Headings”. If my resolution was to “Lose 20 pounds by December 31st, 2011”, what does the 5 S Words mean? I guess I need to know what a topic heading is too…

    1. Crystal, that’s where the challenge comes in. To use S words. For example, for weight loss, you can use:
Spinning – I will take 2 spinning classes a week
Sacrifice – I will give up chocolate for the month of January,
Self Reliance – I will take my bike to run errands instead of my car.

      You get the picture right?

      1. Got it! Thanks! I’ll have my post up on January 5th. 🙂

  2. I was getting inspiration just by reading the rules! I’m so excited!!!!

  3. I am in as usual! Jan 5th! It is funny because just today I posted that I don’t set goals. oh well… I will have a resolution. In fact I do need one. 🙂
