Babci – pronounced “Bahb-chee”
I’ve received a number of requests from people asking for a photo of babci, the inspiration for this blog, so here it is.
I resisted at first because a) Babci hates her photo taken. I think I have about 5 pictures of her total and b) you might be some creepy old lady stalker and I don’t want you to mess with her. So as a tiny measure of security, I won’t tell you which one is the real babci.
The photo above was taken without her knowledge. She is with her twin sister who still lives Poland. They are at the local farmer’s market and I’m sure they are bickering over how fresh the produce is. Even though she doesn’t really know what the Internet is, she would still be pretty mad if she knew her photo was out in cyberspace. So let’s just keep it as our little secret.
So, the handsome and rugged old lady below is my grandmother. I’ve never met her but clearly from my mom’s stories, the twins were not the most favored of her 9+ kids. From what I hear, they caused a lot of ruckus as children.
Fortunately, I did not inherit my grandmother’s fashion sense, but unfortunately, I do have those ankles.
