Coffee Talk is Back – Mark you Calendars

by Sandy L on August 15, 2011

I’ve recently received some feedback that my coffee talk topics have been missed, so by popular demand, I am bringing them back. It’s time for this Month’s Topic. I’ve decided to rename this regular series as Coffee Talk because it reminds me of SNL where Mike Meyers would give a topic and have people talk amongst themselves about it.

If you are a new reader to this site, a couple of good examples of this series are Monkey Personal Finances and 12 Days of Christmas posts from around the web.  Due to the diversity of the writers that participate, it’s always super fun to see what people come up with

  1. Write an article with the following as a topic:  “What my Dysfunctional ________ taught me about ________.”
  2. The article must feature a loved one and an interesting topic.  For example, it could be  “What my dysfunctional brother in law taught me about budgeting”  all the way to “What my dysfunctional grandmother taught me about woman’s suffrage.”
  3. If interested mark your calendar for Aug 30th now so you don’t forget about it.
  4. Try to go outside your writing comfort zone. Stretch yourself.  Pick two things that seemingly don’t go together and make it work.
  5. Help me spread the word.
  6. Post on August 30th.*
  7. Link back  to this site or email me so that I know you participated.
  8. I will post a master round up list at the end of my Aug 30th article. Others can copy and paste it into their own article if desired.
  9. Read other’s posts, laugh, have fun, and promote your fellow blogger.

*Note, if you don’t have a blog of your own but would like to post your own content, you can also send me your article and I can post it up on my site.

Here are some articles and bloggers that have participated in past coffee talks.  I hope to see them participate in this series again along with some newer bloggers.  The day is always extremely entertaining because we are all so different from each other in writing styles and area of expertise.

I’m in. Your timing is eerily impeccable, I was just wondering when the new Challenge would be tendered. Well done, and look forward to it.

I actually will sadly pass on this one since most of my family reads my blog and they wouldn’t be able to see past the word “dysfunctional”, which is ironic since it describes them all so well…

I will have to pass on this. I was looking forward to the next topic as I missed the last 2 due to timing (out of country). My family is not dysfunctional in the PF view point. They are dysfunctional in a weird way, but that is an area I wouldn’t put publicly on my blog. Hopefully I will join the fun next time.

I’m in! Can’t wait until the 30th… here is where my post will be when it goes live then:

Oh no! I would love to participate, but my mom and brother both read my blog. I don’t want to sit out though.

Decisions, decisions!

I’m going to have to skip this one due to my schedule. It has nothing to do with the lack of material in my family! I can’t wait to read what people come up with.
To all the other bloggers that love to read Sandy I challenge you to spread the word about this series on your blog. I, for one, missed Coffee Talk and am glad your back!

I’m clearing my calendar- I’M IN!

All…you don’t have to follow the rules to the letter. If you want, you can take the word dysfunctional out, or talk about someone else in your life. Invest it usually goes off on a complete tangent from the original topic and it’s still fun.

Your Coffee Talk is a great idea and very entertaining!

Thanks for the mention, and I’ll be a contributor again in Fall for sure!!!

It looks like I missed out on this topic that would have been a blast to write about! I’ll have to catch up on the next one. Thanks for sharing!

I linked my post to you, but I don’t see what I wrote on your site. Is there something else I need to do? I’m a friend of Molly Prewit’s, and she told me I should participate. Thanks.

Here’s a link to what I wrote. This is my first time doing this so I’m not sure I have the process right, but here ya go…
